Why sodas are BAD for your child.

Sodas are referred to as liquid candy due to the amount of sugars they contain. The tremendous growth in obese children are often blamed on the young generation’s preference for sodas. The sugar in sodas add a lot of calories to a child’s diet leading to obesity. Because a child’s body buckles under the sugar-load it develops Type 2 Diabetes. More and more children are diagnosed with diabetes each year – a silent epidemic.

Tooth decay is also a major concern. The combination of sugar and acid in sodas are bad news for  teeth. Within 20 minute of drinking  soda these ingredients start attacking tooth enamel, causing caries.

Sodas contain phosphorus – a ingredient that depletes the bones of calcium. A child may become prone to fractures and when older, osteoporosis.

Sodas contain caffeine. Urine production is stimulated by caffeine, meaning the more you drink the thirstier you become. So you have another soda to quench your thirst. Caffeine dependency is a very real possibility. Withdrawal symptoms of caffeine are the following: irritability, severe headaches, upset stomach and a rise in blood pressure. It is the same for both children and adults.
